The term computer is derived form the word 'Compute'. In simple words, a computer is an electronic device which takes input from the user in the from of data and instructions.
Computer Definition.
Computer is an electronic device which process information and store data.
*History of Computer*
In the year 1842 a Greek mathematician "Charles Babbage" invents the "Prototype Engine" it's able to perform addition and multiplication only and very fast compare to other Machine. But in that age it doesn't have any storage capacity or capability.
In the year 1946 " Jhan- Wen-Nu-Meb" invents 1st electronic calculating machine. Which is able to perform all the ratios and store data and more faster than any other device. Of that age, his named the machine "EDVAC" i.e [Electronic Discreet Variable And Calculator] and develop that machine in 1950 & 1951 and named UNIAC i.e [Universal Automatic Computer]
GENERATION OF COMPUTERS
Depending on the advancement of the technology the generation is classified in to four Generations.
1) First Generation
2) Second Generation
3) Third Generation
4) Fourth Generation
1) First Generation :- Computer invented and used between 1940 & 1955 are 1st generation computers. Vacuum tubes were used in these computers. The speed of these computers was very slow & storage system was very small.
2) Second Generation :- used a solid slate device called transistor in the place of vacuum tubes. All these machines were much faster and more reliable than their earlier versions.
3) Third Generation :- was developed after 1960. They integrated circuits (IC) which increased the speed of processing & the storage capacity.
4) Fourth Generation :- were developed after 1970, used microprocessor performs all the functions in a computer. This made Computers very fast. Efficient & smaller in size.
